What a great way to spend a vacation

Feeling secure that my home is protected while I am away, allows me to embark on all kinds of wonderful adventures.  Once such adventure that is on the horizon in the next year or so is the Texas Water Safari.

The Texas Water Safari is actually comprised of several events including an information seminar, two short races (one of which can be considered as a preliminary race) and of course, the Safari itself – the 260 mile race to Seadrift from the headwaters of the San Marcos River. The Safari itself, billed as the “World’s Toughest Boat Race”, is an annual race via the San Marcos and Guadalupe rivers, from Aquarena Springs in the college town of San Marcos, to the shrimping village of Seadrift on the Texas coastline, a total distance of 260 miles. The first official race was held in 1963, and is run annually on the second Saturday of June.

The primary requirement is a boat powered only by human muscle. Racers must take all food and equipment needed with them, receiving only water and ice along the way.

With such a grueling task at hand, why would you want to waste energy or effort on worrying about your home?  “Did I lock the door?”  “Did I drive off and leave the garage door open again?”  “Oh no!  It is going to be over 100 degrees all week.  What did I set the thermostat to?  My Electric bill is going to be HUGE!!!”  With home automation and a smart home security system.  I don’t have to worry about these things.  I can control everything from my smartphone, check on it the night before I embark on my journey and focus on finishing the race at a rate and time that won’t embarrass myself.  I could live with second to last, just not last.

More than Technology

In September of 2014, a man was able to jump a fence and make it into the most heavily guarded and secured residence in the world, The White House.  This wasn’t because he used stealthy skills that are often attributed to Ninjas or because he was able to subdue the Secret Service agents that were guarding the perimeter and lawn.  He wasn’t “in the blind spot” of the cameras (at the White House there are none). He didn’t outrun the K-9 personnel.  He simply took advantage of an opportunity when a few key Secret Service officers were not doing their job. Peace of mind not only comes from having the newest and most state of the art Home Security System.  All of the door sensors, window sensors, motion detectors and two-way voice access panels are useless on their own.  What good is a HD CCTV system if you don’t have the people behind the technology to support it?!  Prevention Home Security is local and responsive.  They have friendly, well trained staff ready to support your needs.  In an emergency they will carry out your pre-planned instruction immediately to ensure that help is on the way.  From the first time that you call Prevention Homes in Fresno for a home security, home automation or CCTV quote, Nick and his team are polite and professional.

“Safe” is a matter of degree

I used to feel good about telling my friends and family that I live in “one of the safest neighborhoods in town.”  Then I took a look at the rest of the state and even my “safe” neighborhood had a higher crime rate than the rest of the state and subsequently it was above the national average.  Installing a home security system, complete with window sensors, glass break sensors and remote notification gave me the added reassurance that my family was protected.  Even the safest neighborhoods had SOME crime.  Unfortunately, no one is immune.  But there is no reason to be all doom and gloom about it; and certainly no reason to live in constant fear.

Today, the “futuristic” features of home automation are available and affordable.  Making sure that my alarm is set while I am sitting at my desk at work or even locking or unlocking doors while I am on vacation are available right now.  Do the research yourself and see how safe you really are.

Dad Chases Intruder

Still think that you don’t need a Home Security System?  “Things like that don’t happen in my neighborhood.” “I live in a nice quiet neighborhood.” As much as I hope that is true, it is an unfortunate fact that the “safer” neighborhoods are seeing an increase in the amount of crimes like, theft, burglary and assault. According to a recent article in the Fresno Bee, the Fresno Police Department reported the following: A father stopped a burglar from crawling into his daughter’s room in southeast Fresno, police reported. The frightening incident happened about 6 a.m. Wednesday in the 3400 block of East Ventura Avenue, Sgt. Mark Hudson said. The suspect was identified as Jose Hernandez, 42. The father discovered the suspect, whose upper torso was through a bedroom window, and chased him from room. Hudson said the suspect grabbed a large stick and threatened to kill the dad. Not intimidated, the father chased the man from the property. Police caught up with the suspect at First Street and Platt Avenue. Hudson said Hernandez confessed to the attempted burglary, saying he needed to support a drug habit. He was booked on charges of burglary and making criminal threats.
